The cost of mobile data access in Canada

Thomas Purves has compiled a very interesting graph that compares how much it costs to transfer 500MB a month at a speed of 700kB/s. As most Canadians already know, the rates charged here are outrageous. The chart looks at the best rates from the Canadian carriers (Bell, Fido and Rogers) and compares them to what carriers charge in other countries. New Zealand comes in at about $41 compared to Rogers at $1600. To rub salt in the wound, even Rwanda comes in at $74.

No wonder I have little inclination to upgrade my plan to more than what I have now. I don’t need another mortgage!
