A first look at Microsoft Origami 2.0

Microsoft Origami

Revealed less than a year ago, Microsoft released Origami for UMPCs but it has not lived up to its promise. But Microsoft has not given up and here comes Origami Experience 2.0. Origami Experience 2.0 is been shown at CES this week and is being made available to UMPC manufacturers for testing and pre-installation this month. In this release we have included four applications, all optimized for the UMPC. These are:

  • Origami Central is an updated version of the original version of Origami Experience 1.0. It features an improved user interface, a fully-optimized browsing experience for UMPCs and an RSS reader.
  • Origami Now is a context-sensitive screen that changes the information displayed according to time, your current location, and freshness of content. It is fully customizable, letting you choose exactly what you want to see (eg, email, calendar, RSS feeds, weather, to-do lists, etc).
  • Origami Picture Password lets you log in by tapping on a sequence of points on a picture.
  • Touch Settings was already available in version 1.0.

More details are promised soon.
