Best Buy Mobile set to launch in Canada

Details are starting to emerge about Best Buy Canada’s plans to expand operations into shopping malls with smaller stores focused on mobile phones and wireless gadgets such as iPods and GPS navigation systems.

While the brand has yet to receive its official launch, a new site called Best Buy Mobile is now live with limited content. So far, there is a BlackBerry Bold promotion where you can get the Bold for CAD$399 (with three-year plan over CAD$45/month) and a free CAD$50 gift card.

So far, seven locations have been announced: Four will be located in existing Best Buy locations in Ancaster and Oakville in Ontario, Edmonton in Alberta and Langley in British Columbia. There will also be three mall stores: One in the Vaughn Mills Shopping Center (already open according to the site), one in the Fairview Mall in Toronto and one at Mississauga’s Square One.

Best Buy is hoping to compete against carrier stores by offering phones and plans from all carriers rather than just one.
