Future Apple tablet to use Intel Atom processor?

Apple

Remember that rumour that Steve Jobs could announce something other than the iPhone at WWDC? It’s still a long shot but Intel Germany CEO Hannes Schwaderer indicated this week that Apple is looking to use an Intel Atom processor in a future iPhone. Could an announcement about this mini-tablet come sooner than later?

The device is being described as a larger iPhone. It is about 1.5 times bigger than the current iPhone and would come with a 720×480 resolution display. It would run an embedded version of the Mac OS X Leopard operating system.

Intel has since denied the report [Google translation], indicating that the comments were about MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices) in general rather than specific to the iPhone. “”Intel does not know about future products of other manufacturers and can therefore say nothing about,” said press spokesman Mike Cato to ZDNet.de.
