Rogers Wireless to carry upcoming BlackBerry Kickstart

RIM BlackBerry Kickstart

Two sites (The Boy Genius and BlackBerry Cool) are both reporting that the upcoming RIM BlackBerry Kickstart is headed to Rogers Wireless. A September launch is expected with marketing documents show that it will be targeted at young urbanites, multi-tasking women, mobile men and data virgin entrants (I’m not making this up).

The new information confirms that the Kickstart will come with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, an internal QVGA display and external 160×128 display, an updated SureType keyboard, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, a 3.5mm headset jack and a 2MP camera.

The new information also reveals that Rogers is about to rename its ‘Home Calling Zone” UMA service to ‘Rogers Talkspot.’

In what is likely a bid to confuse customers, Rogers will rename the Kickstart and offer it as the BlackBerry Pearl 8220. Does it not make sense that a completely different form factor have its own family name?

Pricing has not been disclosed but could be as low as CAD$49.99 with a three-year contract.
