Earlier this month, a rumour broke suggesting that Motorola was about to abandon Windows Mobile to focus instead Google Android as the operating system for its future smartphones. The rumour appears to have been dispelled in a recent Computerworld interview where Brian Viscount, vice president of marketing for mobile enterprise computing at Motorola, indicated that Motorola “remains 100% committed to Windows Mobile.”
It was only months ago that Motorola took a few pot shots at Windows Mobile and revealed that Microsoft was working on Windows Mobile 6.5.
Maybe Motorola is giving Microsoft another chance? Or giving itself a bit of breathing room while Android gains a bit more traction in the market? With the Mobile World Congress only weeks away, perhaps we will have answers soon.
