Windows Mobile 6.5 headed to device manufacturers in mid-2009?

Microsoft Windows Mobile

New rumours have surfaced that Windows Mobile 6.5 will soon be making its way onto mobile devices. Can there really be any doubt at this point that a Microsoft announcement is imminent?

According to Digitimes sources, mobile phone manufacturers will receive Windows Mobile 6.5 in mid-2009. The delivery will follow the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system’s unveiling at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. Digitimes goes on to report that we could start to see devices running Windows Mobile 6.5 as early as Q3 but that Q4 device launches (in time for the holiday season) are more likely.

There is no word yet on whether device manufacturers will offer upgrades for current Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 devices.
