Jean-Pierre Blais named Chairman of the CRTC

CanadaThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has a new chairman. The Canadian government named Jean-Pierre Blais as the new whead of Canada’s telecom and broadcast regulator. Blais replaces acting chair Leonard Katz who had replaced former chairman Konrad von Finckenstein in January.

“Mr. Blais is well qualified for the position of Chairperson of the CRTC. He brings a strong legal background and a comprehensive understanding of the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors and the role of the CRTC, having held high-level positions at the Treasury Board Secretariat, the Department of Canadian Heritage and the CRTC,” said the Prime Minister. “I wish him all the best as he takes on the challenges of his new role.”

Mr. Blais was appointed for a 5-year term. It effect on June 18th.
