If Apple does introduce a cheaper iPhone model in the near future, you can be sure that it will not be called the Budget iPhone or iPhone Lite as we have been calling it for lack of a better name. A new image may finally have given us a clue as to what Apple will call this model. The picture, posted in the Chinese WeiPhone.com forums, shows what appears to be a bin full of the presumed bottom piece of its retail packaging. Clearly visible on these is the name iPhone 5C.
Speculation suggests that the C could stand for “Colour” or even “plastiC” or “Cheap” (we’re thinking the first is most likely), especially as past rumours have suggested that this model would be available in a variety of colours, much as some iPods are offered now.
The Apple iPhone 5C (or whatever it will be called) is expected to come with a 4-inch display and a plastic case in multiple colours. One rumour yesterday suggested it would be no more than a repackaged iPhone 5 rather than an entirely new device.
Apple is expected to announce both the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C in late summer with September as the announcement timeframe most referred to in past rumours.
