Apple readying a 12.9-inch iPad tablet?

Apple

Samsung may not be the only company looking to diversify its tablet lineup with models with larger displays. Apple is reportedly also looking at iPads larger than the current 9.7-inch models and is already working with Taiwan’s Quanta on such devices. According to the Chinese language United Daily News, the company is looking to launch a tablet described as a “12-inch class device” but the report itself makes no mention of specific display sizes.

If the story sounds familiar, it’s because rumours surfaced back in July that Apple was already testing a number of prototypes with 13-inch displays or just slightly smaller. Earlier rumours alluded to a 12.9-inch display.

Much like Samsung which is reportedly about to launch a 12.2-inch Galaxy Note model, it is likely that Apple is looking to the larger tablets as a further way to offset declining sales of PCs.

Should Apple launch a larger iPad model, we will not likely see it until 2014. In the meantime, it is expected to refresh its current iPad and iPad mini lineup with new models within weeks. An event is reportedly set for October 15.
