BBM for Android and iPhone to launch on September 20?

It appears that the launch of BBM for Android and iPhone is only days away now. Only yesterday, BlackBerry promised that the launch would happen “soon.” New details from Indonesian blog TeknoUp now suggest it will launch on September 20th with a staggered fashion with the Android version to lead off and the iPhone version to follow a day later. At least one BBM launch event is set to take place on that day in Jakarta, Indonesia.

According to the latest rumours, it will launch on September 20th in a staggered rollout. Here is the alleged launch timetable:

  • Friday, Sept 20th, 7am EST: Android version published on Google Play
  • Friday, Sept 20th, 7am EST: BBM.com goes live
  • Friday, Sept 20th, 7am EST: CRM messages sent out to pre-registrants
  • Friday, Sept 20th, 7am EST: Follow-up CRM message sent out after full App Store deployment
  • Saturday, Sept 21st: BBM on iOS becomes available 12:01am EST in local time zones.

CrackBerry reports that various sources have corroborated the launch date if not the specific schedule.

BBM for Android will require Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwith or higher while BBM for iPhone will require iOS 6 or higher. Both will be lmited to messaging and group functionality at launch.
