Google announces Nexus 5 with Android 4.4 KitKat (Updated)

It’s time to put to rest all the rumours about the Google Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat. Google today unveiled its latest Nexus device, the Nexus 5 smartphone running Android 4.4. It launched with little fanfare at 11oo PT (1400 ET) on Google Play.

With the number of rumours that we’ve seen over the past few weeks, there is little about the Nexus 5 that is a surprise. Nonetheless, it’s all official now! Here are the official specifications and there are no surprises here:

The Google Nexus 5 sells for CA/US$349 for the 16GB model and CA/US$399 for the 32GB model.

For what it’s worth, Google appears to have learned a few lessons from the debacle that the Google Nexus 4 launch was. The whole checkout experience was a breeze today!

Update (16:16): It appears that more inventory is being added. Various models appear to become available for short periods of time before once again selling out.
