HTC working on octa-core HTC One variant with 3GB of RAM?

HTC

The HTC One has garnered many rave reviews but that has failed to translate into the sales necessary to turn it into a bonafide hit. But rather than going back to the drawing board, HTC may be looking to prolong the life of the HTC One with a number of hardware improvements. Much like HTC did in the past with the HTC One X and One X+, this new device would retain much of the characteristics and look of the HTC One but also receive a few specification bumps to keep it relevant.

A leaked image received by Greek website Tech Community suggests that this next-generation HTC One could be powered by an octa-core processor and get a RAM upgrade to 3GB. It’s not clear what kind of octa-core processor HTC could go with. There are not many choices currently available. Samsung could be one option (but it has never done business with HTC) while another could be MediaTek’s promised true octa-core processor, the Cortex-A7-based MediaTek MT6592.

Other improvements set for this new device are support for more cellular bands, a thinner and lighter display that would use Gorilla Glass 3, and ‘Clear Audio,’ a new feature to improve call quality.

HTC apparently told Tech Community that such a device did not figure in their plans (according to the Google translation). The statement seems a bit odd. Typically companies simply say that they don’t have any statement to make about rumours. Then again, it may well have responded so if that octa-core processor is no more than wishful thinking on the part of some prankster.

We’ll keep this one squarely in the rumours category for now if only because of the mystery of that octa-core processor and HTC’s own statement.
