Sony Mobile yesterday announced that it had begun to roll out its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean upgrade for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. Much like the just announced Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra Android 4.3 upgrade, it includes not only the latest version of Android Jelly Bean but a few other Sony enhancements as well. Among these are:
- Sony Smart Social Camera introduced with the Xperia Z1
- Entire Sony native app portfolio has been updated bringing “tweaked / improved / current experiences” to apps such as Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect and others
- Updated Media apps including WALKMAN, Album and Movies to offer “a more converged and full Sony entertainment experience” across services such as Sony Entertainment Network and both local and cloud content
- New custom interface experience called Xperia Themes with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select
- Updated Xperia in Business mobile enterprise solution
- An updated version of Battery STAMINA Mode with an updated interface and more options to improve battery life
- “Restricted profiles” on the Xperia Tablet Z to create isolated, secure spaces with individual local storage, home screens, widgets and settings
Needless to say and as usual, the rollout schedule varies by market and carrier. We’ll let you know when the update starts hitting Canadian devices.
