Sony Xperia Z2 coming to CES 2014?

SonyWith Sony’s Xperia Z1, its latest flagship smartphone, announcement behind us it’s time for the rumour mill to turn to future devices. One of those could be the Sony Xperia Z2, codenamed Avatar and bearing model number C770X. The mysterious device comes to light via Esato forum’s Randomuser who has also revealed details about other Xperia smartphones in the past.

Details are light but the Xperia Z2 is described as a “minor update” to the Xperia Z1. Early details suggest the following specifications:

  • Processor: 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AB)
  • Display: 5.2-inch Full HD TRILUMINOS
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Rear-facing camera: 20.7MP with 4K video recording

So far, it does appear that the Xperia Z2 will not be a radical departure from the Z1. It has a slightly larger display, a slight improvement in processor clock speed and a bump in RAM. It will presumably run Android 4.4 KitKat although Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is also a possibility.

The Xperia Z2 should be unveiled at CES 2014. The event is still a few months away so things could still change but manufacturers, including Sony, are all hard at work getting their devices ready for the event.
