4-inch Apple iPhone to return in 2015?

Apple iPhone 5cApple long resisted the urge to embrace the trend towards larger smartphone displays. When it finally decided to embrace larger displays earlier this year, it unveiled both the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus models. Despite selling new sales records, there are signs that Apple is not ready to abandon the market for smaller devices. New rumours from Apple’s supply chain in China suggest that Apple will unveil a new 4-inch Apple iPhone next year.

The new 4-inch iPhone will likely replace the iPhone 5C (pictured above) and launch sometime in the second half of the year. It will emphasize one-hand operation and may target “female users” in particular. The iPhone 5C has not been a strong seller (in Apple terms) and the new device may adopt the look and materials of the iPhone 6 in a more compact design, allowing Apple to continue to offer iPhones in a range of sizes.

While no specific launch timelines are provided, the new 4-inch Apple iPhone will presumably launch alongside updated versions of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus which will be coming in late Q3 2015 if Apple sticks to recent refresh cycles.
