Concept Sunday: HTC Nexus 5 2014

HTC Nexus 5 2014 conceptThe Google Nexus 6 was not announced yet that rumours began to circulate that Google was looking to release two Nexus smartphones this year. One rumour suggested a 5.2-inch model manufactured by Motorola, the company behind the Nexus 6, while another suggested a slightly upgraded Nexus 5 with 64GB of internal storage. Neither model came to be. But that did not stop Nick Ludgate from wondering might what have been if Google had decided to release a Nexus 5 2014 model built by HTC, the company that designed the Nexus 9 tablet.

Clearly inspired by the HTC One (M8), the Nexus 5 2014 sports an aluminium body. The back throws in design elements reminiscent of the Nexus 5, including the large Nexus branding.

As for specifications, Ludgate envisions the following for the HTC Nexus 5 2014:

  • Processor: 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805
  • Operating system: Google Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • Display: 5.2-inch Full HD (1080×1920) Super LCD 2
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Internal storage: 32GB/64GB
  • Rear-facing camera: 13MP with dual-LED flash
  • Battery: 3,440mAh
  • Other: Front-facing BoomSound HD speakers

In keeping with the tradition of the Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, the new HTC Nexus 5 2014 would have sold for as little as US$299.

The only downside to the HTC Nexus 5 2014: It’s no more than a concept.
