AnTuTu benchmarks reveal very different Samsung Galaxy S5 variants

AnTuTu benchmarks for Samsung SM-G900H and SM-G900R4

The evidence continues to mount that Samsung is readying both a standard and premium version of its Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone. Two very different Galaxy S5 variants have now been found on AnTuTu’s benchmark website. Both the SM-G900H and SM-G900R4 models are not new, having surfaced on a list of SM-G900 variants. The SM-G900H is reportedly bound for Europe and the SM-G900R4 for U.S. Cellular.

The SM-G900H benchmarks reveals details we’ve already seen from other variants (including the SM-G900P). AnTuTu reveals that it will come with a Full HD (1920×1080) display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, . It also reveals a completely new processor, the 1.5GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 5422 processor paired with an ARM Mali-T628 GPU.

The SM-G900R4 looks to be a premium variant. AnTuTu reveals it will come with a WQHD (2560×1440) display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AC) processor. Again, we’ve seen similar details before with the SM-G900S.

Both devices come with Android 4.4.2 KitKat, a 16MP rear camera and a 2.1MP front-facing one.

In terms of performance, the SM-G900H comes out ahead likely because its FHD display puts less stress on its hardware. The premium SM-G900R4’s performance falls below that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Both devices have the same Adreno 330 GPU and the difference in resolution likely again explains the difference in performance.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S5 at MWC 2014 at the Unpacked5 event. It may well unveil at least two Galaxy S5 variants at the event.
