Apple focuses on wearables and Health app with latest ad

Apple iOS Health appWhile hardware announcements may have been sadly lacking at Apple’s WWDC 2014 keynote earlier this week, Apple more than made up for it with the introduction of a lot of new features and enhancements on the software and services side. Among them was the announcement of its new HealthKit platform and Health app. Health will track a range of health and fitness data not only from Apple hardware but also from third party accessories. It’s latest ad, called “Strength,” shows how Health will work with the iPhone 5S:

The ad shows people engaged in various fitness activities. In each case, some kind of wearable device and the ever-present iPhone 5S are used to not only track progress but also assist by showing how to do particular exercises or capturing a particular motion like a golf swing to study it later. Even day-to-day activities, like biking to work, can be tracked and become a goal against which you can measure yourself.

Among the wearables featured are the Misfit Shine fitness tracker, the Nike+ Running app and a Wahoo bike sensor.

The Health app is part of the upcoming iOS 8 release coming this fall (although developers already have access to beta versions).
