BlackBerry announces BlackBerry OS 10.2.1

BlackBerry 10 OSAlmost a year to the day that it launched BlackBerry 10, the company today announced the latest software update. BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1.

BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1, is designed to help you be more productive and stay better connected. The update includes many brand new changes and updates to go over, keep reading for the inside scoop on it all. The best news is it starts rolling out today!

Among the new features and enhancements you’ll find are:

  • A new Pinch gesture that lets you filter BlackBerry Hub and display only unread messages, flagged messages, draft messages, meeting invites, sent messages or Level 1 alerts
  • An improved incoming call screen that lets you swipe to the left to answer or swipe right to ignore a call and includes icons to silence the call or send a Reply Now response through BBM, SMS or email
  • Ability to create SMS and email groups
  • Actionable lock screen notifications
  • Picture password for quick unlocking whereby you drag a number from a grid to a particular point on an image to unlock the phone
  • Customizable Quick Settings Menu
  • Offline browser reading mode
  • An improved device and battery monitor that provides information such as the impact of installed apps on battery life and memory usage and storage, as well as CPU stats
  • FM radio on the BlackBerry Z30, BlackBerry Q10 or BlackBerry Q5 smartphone
  • Ability to configure software updates to happen automatically
  • Additional security features and IT policies with BES 10.2

BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 will be made available across BlackBerry’s range of BlackBerry 10 smartphones (including the Porsche Design P’9982) starting today. The deployment spans Canada, the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America and, as always, is subject to carrier approvals.

A couple of confirmations indicate that the rollout is underway in Canada with Bell and TELUS.
