Foxconn leaks forcing Apple to unveil iPhone 6 at WWDC 2014?

Apple iPhone 6 concept by Federico CiccareseWith only hours to go before Apple kicks off WWDC 2014 with its traditional keynote, an interesting rumour has surfaced that suggests we could be in for more of a treat than expected. The report suggests that Apple could announce both the iPhone 6 and the iWatch at the event. The company was planning to make these announcements later in the year but a Foxconn leak is reportedly forcing its hand. Some 40 actual devices have somehow gone missing and Apple has decided to move the announcement up to avoid having all details splashed across the Internet before their announcements.

As we have seen in the past with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One (M8) and LG G3, leaks and rumours have painted nearly complete pictures of the new devices before the manufacturers announce them, leaving them to simply confirm details at their events. It certainly robs them of any excitement and, worse, can be detrimental when the devices unveiled do not live up to some of the rumours.

The claim is made by TK Tech News, a relatively new source for leaks and rumours. They also recently reported that HTC will launch their first smartwatch, the HTC One Wear, as early as August. While we will have to wait a few more weeks to validate the HTC rumour, we will know in a few short hours whether they’ve correctly called the Apple one.

If accurate, the appearance of the iPhone 6 at WWDC 2014 could make this event even more interesting than usual!

  1. Looks like the contoured rear surface would feel nice. As a product designer, a complaint I commonly hear from iPhone users is uncomfort from the squared rear surfaces when actually using the phone as a phone.

My wife, an Apple fan-girl if there ever was one, says “it seems very ‘Samsung-like’ doesn’t it?”. Wow, leader becomes follower?
