HP Chromebook 11 G3 to sport Intel Celeron processor

HP Chromebook 11 G3

It appears that Hewlett-Packard is getting ready to update its HP Chromebook 11 once more. First introduced late last year, it was refreshed back in May, a move seen by many as more of a downgrade than an improvement due to the inclusion of a new lower quality display. It now appears that the HP Chromebook 11 G3 will be announced shortly. An official PDF datasheet popped up briefly on HP’s website ahead of the announcement, giving us an early glimpse at the third generation of this Chromebook.

It appears that the biggest change will be that the HP Chromebook 11 G3 will drop the ARM-based processor, a Samsung Exynos 5250, in favour of an Intel Celeron N2830 one. This should go a long way in addressing performance concerns.

Rumoured HP Chromebook 11 G3 specifications:

  • Processor: 2.16GHz dual-core Intel Celeron N2830
  • Operating system: Google Chrome OS
  • Cellular connectivity: Optional LTE/HSPA+
  • Other connectivity: 802.11n or 802.11ac options, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Display: 11.6-inch HD (1366×768) WLED
  • RAM: 4GB DDR3L
  • Internal storage: 16GB
  • Ports: 3.5mm audio jack, 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI out
  • Dimensions: 29.97× 20.6 × 2.1 centimeters

The data sheet clearly targets the HP Chromebook 11 G3 at the education market. It remains to be seen if the company will make it more widely available.

With the original document having been found on HP’s own servers, we can take the specifications with a fair amount of confidence but nothing is for sure until a formal announcement is made.
