HTC developing HTC T7 and T12 tablets alongside HTC Volantis?

Rumoured Google Nexus 9

Rumours that HTC was working on a Nexus tablet for Google (pictured above) have been around for some time now. It now appears that it may not be the only tablet that HTC is working on though. The usually reliable @evleaks today revealed that the company is also working on two additional models that will launch under the HTC brand.

The two tablets are codenamed the HTC T7 and HTC T12. Could they be 7-inch and 12-inch models respectively? It’s not immediately clear and no other information is provided about either. Perhaps they will, like is rumoured for the Google Nexus 9 (also known as the Volantis and Flounder), come with an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor and front-facing BoomSound speakers. It also remains to be seen if they will adopt the same premium metal body as the HTC One flagship smartphones.

No timelines were provided for a potential launch for the HTC T7 and HTC T12. Perhaps they will follow the launch of the Google Nexus 9 which is expected to launch as the first Android L device sometime this fall.

HTC exited the tablet business in 2012 after lacklustre sales of models such as the HTC Flyer and HTC Jetstream. Returns of a return have popped up sporadically since but never went anywhere. The persistent Google Nexus 9 (or Nexus 8) have been the strongest indication that it is finally about to make a comeback for real.
