Motorola has teased us with with the elegant Moto 360 since March but it has yet to hit the market. It is expected to do so within weeks but it may not be the only such device for very much longer. A new teaser by LG, suggests that it will soon unveil its own round face smartwatch. Reportedly called the LG G Watch R (presumably for Round), the video discovered by Engadget (and still unlisted on YouTube) indicates that LG will unveil it at IFA 2014.
Along with taglines like “Round the corners” and “Round the bends,” the teaser shows off a range of round watchfaces along with brief glimpses at a compass and pedometer. It’s not a lot to go on but LG promises that more will be revealed at IFA 2014.
It now appears that, like Motorola, LG has been working on a smartwatch with a round face for some time now. LG may have decided to release the original LG G Watch much as Samsung did last year with the original Gear smartwatch to gauge customer interest and essentially run a public beta to address any issues discovered before releasing the LG G Watch R.
One thing is clear: All the hype that Motorola has built up for the Moto 360 may quickly be wiped away when LG unveils the LG G Watch R.
