Microsoft to unveil Surface Pro 3 at May 20 Surface event?

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 mentionMicrosoft is holding a Surface media event on May 20. Hints dropped by the company suggest that it will unveil the Surface mini but it may not be the only device to get the spotlight treatment. A support document published on the Microsoft website described a new update for Windows 8.1 that would add “support to the Surface Pro 3 camera.” Needless to say, such a device has yet to be announced. It suggests that Microsoft may unveil more than one device at the event.

A report last week suggested that Microsoft would announce more than just the Surface Mini at the event. It suggested that “other new Surface models” would be unveiled, a hint that a new Surface tablet lineup could be unveiled. It added that some of these new Surface tablets could run on Intel processors whereas the Surface Mini is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm chipset. A separate source then corroborated the Intel rumour to CNET, saying: “There’s definitely a new Intel-based Surface.” Could this be the Surface Pro 3? It is certainly plausible given that the Surface Pro models to date have all used Intel processors.

In the meantime, the Microsoft document has been updated and references to the Surface Pro 3 have been removed. Typo or slip-up ahead of next week’s announcement? You decide and let us know below.
