Plastic-bodied HTC M8 Ace to take on Samsung Galaxy S5 with lower price?

Rumoured HTC M8 Ace

Rumours earlier this month suggested that HTC was looking at releasing a cheaper variant of its HTC One (M8) flagship smartphone clad in a plastic unibody case. The idea behind this variant was to be able to offer a cheaper alternative without compromising on specifications. Engadget has learned that this device may be none other than the recently spotted HTC M8 Ace.

Initial conjecture suggested that the HTC M8 Ace might be a mini version of the HTC One (M8). With Engadget adding that it will reportedly come with “almost identical specs as the Galaxy S5, including a 5-inch 1080p display plus a 2.5GHz, quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC,” it might still be offered as such although that 5-inch display would certainly stretch the definition of mini.

Rumoured HTC M8 Ace size comparison

Whether the HTC M8 Ace will sport the new HTC Duo camera remains to be seen. This could be one specification that HTC decides to downgrade in order to further drive down the cost.

There is no information yet on when and where the HTC M8 Ace might actually launch. No price is mentioned but earlier rumours hinted that HTC might be able to shave off about CA$200, dropping the contract-free price to about CA$500.
