Public Mobile unveils updated plans and new smartphones including Moto G

Public Mobile smartphone lineup - March 2014

With Public Mobile now part of TELUS, the budget carrier has begun its transition away from its CDMA network over to the TELUS HSPA network. As part of this changeover, customers will need to choose new plans and new devices.

Here’s why. We’re moving to Canada’s largest 4G Network, the benefits of which include national coverage, faster wireless data speeds, access to the latest technology and better name-brand phones. All our phones will be SIM-based, offering affordability and flexibility.

Public Mobile will initially offer three new phones: the Moto G (CA$250), the Samsung Galaxy Ace II x (CA$200) and the Alcatel A392A (CA$100).

Public Mobile is also revamping its plans. While the CA$19 plan remains unchanged, most other plans will go up by CA$5 per month. Along with the price increase, Public Mobile is discontinuing its unlimited data offers. Its CA$40 and CA$45 plans will instead come with 1GB of data. It is also introducing a new CA$60 plan with 2GB of data later.

Public Mobile plans - March 2014

TELUS is required to carry the CA$19 plan until the end of 2014. Don’t be surprised to see it disappear once it is no longer mandated as part of the Public Mobile acquisition to offer it.
