Samsung also working on a smartwatch with round watchface

Samsung NameRound is in when it comes to smartwatches. Motorola was the first to unveil a smartwatch with a round face but it will soon be joined by a few others. LG is teasing its LG G Watch R ahead of IFA 2014 and now comes word that Samsung wants in as well. SamMobile has learned that Samsung is also working on smartwatch with a round display.

It appears though that Samsung missed all the excitement and interest generated by such a device. Its round smartwatch is still under development and may only be released “a few months after the Galaxy Note 4 gets launched.” Other details are scarce and it’s not even clear if the new Samsung watch will run Android Wear like the Gear Live or Tizen like the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

In the meantime, Samsung will reportedly launch a SIM-enabled version of its Gear smartwatch alongside the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy VR headset at IFA 2014. Such a device has been rumoured in the past as the Samsung Gear Solo.

For those eager to get their hands on a smartwatch with a round face at the earliest, the Motorola 360 is still their best bet. Motorola is expected to formally unveil it at a press event on September 4. It is expected to launch soon after and sell for as low as US$249.
