Samsung to hold next Unpacked launch event in March?

SamsungFollowing reports that Samsung was aiming for a March or April launch for its next Galaxy S smartphone, likely the Galaxy S5, a separate report now suggests that Samsung will hold a dedicated global launch event in mid-March. Italian freelance journalist @flavio tweeted that the information comes from “a reliable source.”

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S4 last year on March 14 at an Unpacked event in New York City. In fact, Samsung has used such dedicated events for its flagship devices since unveiling the Galaxy S III at its first Unpacked event back in April 2012. Every Galaxy S and Galaxy Note device since has been the star of its own Unpacked event, even if they took place in conjunction with another event such as IFA.

As for the Galaxy S5, rumours have so far painted a contradictory picture. Some have suggested that it will sport a metal body, a 64-bit processor and flexible display while others have alluded to a faux-leather case like the Galaxy Note 3 and a flat display. For its part, Samsung has only hinted that the Galaxy S5 will be a return “to the basics,” with the display and the cover getting much of the attention.

Samsung could also use its next Unpacked event to unveil the Galaxy Gear 2, the successor to its tepidly received and selling Galaxy Gear smartwatch introduced only months ago at IFA 2013 alongside the Galaxy Note 3.

Samsung is expected to use MWC 2014 to unveil its first Tizen-powered smartphones.
