Significant battery life improvements with Moto 360 Android Wear 4.4W.1 update

Motorola Moto 360Motorola began to push out an update for its Moto 360 smartwatch last week. The change log for the build KRW42R build of Android Wear 4.4W.1 makes no mention of battey life improvements but there is growing anedotal evidence that the update also improves battery life in a significant way.

First-hand accounts on a Reddit thread indicate that users are seeing improvements up to 30%. For example, the thread’s creator reports that after 14 hours of use, it still showed a 70% charge. Before the update, it would have shown 50% or less. Comments such as”That battery life is crazy.” are not unusual either. Even users relying on the Ambient Mode which keeps the watch face lit up at all times (albeit more dimly) are reporting that they are able to get through the day.

While it cannot be confirmed, it appears that the Bluetooth connection improvements are at least contributing to the battery life improvements. It could also be that Motorola has fixed one or more other causes under the umbrella of the generic “bug fixes” umbrella.

If poor battery life kept you from buying the Moto 360Will the Moto 360’s new extended battery life get you to reconsider buying it?
