Vicinity Rewards updates Android app with new interface (Updated: iOS too)

Rogers Vicinity Rewards app

While we liked the convenience offered by the Vicinity Rewards program when we reviewed it last October, the Android app’s interface left us underwhelmed. It did the job but it seemed a little haphazard. It would appear that Vicinity took our concerns to heart; it unveiled an updated Android app this week and it features a completely redesigned interface.

Shop local. Earn rewards.
Vicinity lets you earn points and collect rewards at hundreds of participating neighbourhood businesses. Vicinity is simple, free, and best of all, it’s one card that works at many of your favourite restaurants, coffee shops, salons, gyms, retail stores, and more!

The app’s functionality has not changed much. You still get two key views: A summary of your current rewards and a Discover section (essentially a renamed Locations section) which allows you to discover new merchants that support the Vicinity program. The new app promises improved search and maps as well as improved business listings. For example, the latter now incorporates a Google Map section showing you exactly where it is located.

Unfortunately, it appears that only the Android app has been updated so far. The iOS app has yet to benefit from the same new coat of paint.

The Vicinity Rewards app remains free and is available for both Android and iOS through their respective app stores.

Update (4/27/2014): Good news! Vicinity let us know that the iOS version has also been updated. Version 2.0 is now available in the App Store.
