CES 2015: Polar unveils Polar A300 fitness monitor

Polar A300Polar is a Finnish company that already offers a number of sports-centric wearables. Promising “the beginning of a new era of fitness monitors,” the company today announced the Polar A300 fitness monitor. As the name implies, it provides all-day activity tracking, measuring everything from active time, steps taken and distance to sleep time.

The Activity Benefit feature tracks all the active choices made throughout the day and shows how they help in staying healthy. A300 rewards the user when they have done enough and makes them move if there is still a bit missing from their individual daily activity goal. Moreover, A300 will interrupt long periods of sitting with a vibration alert encouraging to move.

The Polar A300 can also be paired with the optional Polar H7 heart rate sensor. It provides additional information such as calorie burn both in heart rate based training and daily activities.

One feature missing is GPS tracking, a feature found on the slightly more expensive Polar M400. On the flipside, the M400 does not offer the vibration alerts of the A300.

Much like the Sony SmartWatch 3, the fitness module can be pulled out from the strap and inserted into a new one. It must also be pulled out to expose the charging USB port.

The Polar A300 will launch in North America and Finland in February in six “juicy” colours (including the three below). It will sell for US$159.95 or US$199.95 with the Polar H7 heart monitor. Additional straps will sell for US$25.
