Concept Sunday: What the Samsung Gear A smartwatch might look like

Samsung Gear A conceptWe featured some early concept work of what the Samsung Gear A (also known as the Samsung Orbis) might look like last month. South Korea’s xplash has since finished a number of new renders giving us a much better sense of what Samsung’s next smartwatch might look like.

The new images suggest that Samsung could offer a wide range of colour and material options. The watch itself could come with silver, gold and even rose gold cases. With the ability to function as a keychain, necklace or armband, Samsung could also offer a range of band accessories, ranging from colourful plastic ones to leather and metal ones. It would presumably also offer other accessories but none are shown here.

The concepts extend as far as giving us a glimpse at what the user interface could look like. With a crown and rotating bezel, many watch functions could be controlled by simply turning the bezel and either tapping on the display or on the button. below you can see how you would choose between different music stations. It’s not a radical departure from what was found in the latest Samsung Gear SDK.

Here’s hoping that xplash will next give us a look at what the Samsung Gear A will look like when worn as a necklace or keychain.

The Samsung Gear A is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Note 5 at IFA 2015 in early September.
