Czapek & Cie. unveils first watch collection

Czapek Quai des Bergues no 23 While the traditional watch industry is nervously watching the rise of smartwatches, new companies continue to launch, suggesting that the love affair with watches will not end any time soon. An old name is now making a comeback as well. Czapek & Cie., a firm founded in 1845 by François (Francizek) Czapek and Juliusz Gruzewski after the former parted ways with  Antoni Patek (who went on to found Patek Philippe in 1851). Czapek’s name faded into obscurity by the end of the 19th century. It was resurrected this year with the unveiling of the new Quai des Bergues collection.

Named after the street where Czapek’s studio was located, the Quai des Bergues is inspired by the company’s own 1850 Reference 3430 pocket watch. Six timepieces make up this first Czapek collection.
