MWC 2015: Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch unveiled

Huawei WatchAfter Huawei prematurely posted two YouTube videos for the Huawei Watch yesterday, it should come as no surprise that the Chinese company formally unveiled its first Android Wear smartwatch.

Today’s announcement provides the details that the videos did not.

  • Display: 1.4-inch full circle (400×400/286PPI) AMOLED with sapphire crystal
  • RAM: 512MB
  • Internal storage: 4GB
  • External storage: None
  • Sensors: Gyroscope and Accelerometer, PPG (heart monitor), barometer, vibration motor
  • Battery: 300mAh
  • Dimensions: 42 × 42 × 11.3 millimeters
  • Colours: Black, Gold and Silver

Customization will be possible with interchangeable straps, including both leather and metal ones, as well as a choice of some 40 watch faces.

Based on how other Android Wear smartwatches fare when it comes to battery life, we expect that the Huawei Watch will require daily charging unless Huawei has a (welcome) surprise up its sleeve.

Like the Moto 360, the Huawei Watch will support wireless charging and comes with a a magnetic charging station.

The Huawei Watch will be offered in some twenty countries, including Canada. Pricing details were not announced today.
