Sony accidentally reveals upcoming SmartBand 2 fitness tracker

Rumoured Sony SmartBand 2Sony unveiled the Sony SmartBand SWR10 fitness tracker back at Mobile World Congress 2014. It should come as no surprise that, more than a year later, Sony is getting ready to unveil a successor. If there was any doubt lingering about, Sony put them to rest by accidentally confirming the Sony SmartBand 2 by briefly posting a SmartBand 2 companion app on Google Play.

The app presents the SmartBand 2 SWR12 as “an innovative life logging wrist band that tracks your body effort through pulse and HRV (heart rate variability), keeps track of your movements and your sleep.”

Rumoured Sony SmartBand 2 app

Details about the new app and fitness tracker quickly emerged before Sony could pull the app back down. The most significant change is the addition of a heart rate sensor that will record “your pulse at an even rate throughout the day” but can also display it “right now.”

The Sony SmartBand 2 will, like its predecessor, also track various activities and your sleep patterns and forward incoming notifications from your smartphone. It will also support Sony’s Lifelog feature which gives you a look at your complete day by not only tracking your progress against fitness goals but also various social activities and special life events. A dedicated button will let you capture of all your data at a particular moment in time as well.

The app suggests that the Sony SmartBand 2 will work best with Sony Xperia smartphones but it should work just as well with other Android devices.

Still missing are availability and pricing details for the Sony SmartBand 2.This slip-up suggests that we may not have to wait much longer to find these out though.
