ZTE unveils Axon Watch smartwatch

ZTE Axon WatchZTE unveiled its new flagship Axon brand last week when it unveiled the ZTE Axon smartphone (which will come to Canada later this year).The company today announced that it will also launch a smartwatch under that brand. Unlike its smartphone sibling, the ZTE Axon Watch is unlikely to make it out of China for now.

ZTE revealed only a few details about the Axon Watch today. It will be powered by the Tencent OS which was developed by ZTE and Tencent. It will support both voice and gesture controls. Other specifications include a 1.4-inch Gorilla Glass display, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage, Bluetooth 4.1, a 300mAh battery and an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

As with many other smartwatches already available, the ZTE Axon Watch is intended to offer a range of notifications as well as fitness and health monitoring. It also promises as “range of other applications, from phone calls to messaging.”

The ZTE Axon  Watch will sell for between 2,700 Yuan (about C$560) and 3,900 Yuan (about CA$810) depending on configuration.

ZTE Axon WatchIt remains to be seen if ZTE will bring the Axon Watch to markets outside of China, possibly with a different operating system (Android Wear perhaps?).
