Garmin today announced a new line of multisport watches. The Garmin fēnix Chronos collection is a premium take on its Garmin fēnix 3 watch. Three models will be available, all sporting a metal housing, a first for the fēnix line.
“High-end design meets top-tier performance with fēnix Chronos,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “With luxurious materials and trusted Garmin multisport technology, fēnix Chronos is a necessary timepiece for anyone who wants to remain stylish through all of life’s adventures – whether its hiking through mountains, training for a race, or heading to a formal event.”
The Garmin fēnix Chronos will be available in titanium with a brushed titanium band, steel with a brushed stainless steel band and steel with a vintage leather band. It comes with a 1.2-inch Chroma Display with LED backlighting protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire lens. Each will also come with an interchangeable silicone sport band.
Under the hood, the fēnix Chronos offers very similar functionality and specifications as the fēnix 3 HR. Along with the Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology, you’ll find GPS and GLONASS support, ABC sensors (altimeter, barometer, compass) and Connect IQ compatibility. It is also water resistant to 10 ATM (100 meters).
Like other fēnix 3 models, the Chronos offers full multisport and daily activity tracking, monitoring everything from the number of steps taken to the quality of your sleep. The Garmin Elevate heart rate monitor complements this data with heart rate and intensity minute data. The Garmin Connect mobile app provides further functionality, including addiitional watch faces, apps and widgets.
It promises up to 25 hours of battery life in UltraTrac battery saver mode and up to 13 hours in GPS mode. Smart watch mode can stretch battery life to up to one week.
With premium materials comes a premium price – as far as smartwatches are concerned. The titanium Garmin fēnix Chronos will sell for US$1,499.99 (about CA$1970), the steel one for US$999.99 (about CA$1310) with a stainless steel bracelet and US$899.99 (about CA$1180) with the leather band.
