Tag Heuer last year announced the Carrera Heuer-01, its flagship timepiece for a new collection of contemporary chronographs. At Baselworld 2016, it unveiled a new model for the collection with a price point that will introduce tourbillons to many. The TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer-02T is a COSC-certified automatic chronograph with a flying tourbillon that will sell for under CHF 15,000 (about US$15,400 or CA$20,400). This is a first for the Swiss watch industry.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer-02T symbolises the continued investment and creativity of the TAG Heuer brand, which has been, and continues to be, at the forefront the Swiss Avant-Garde since 1860. More than a slogan, the avant-garde is our spirit, our culture and our philosophy!
The Tag Heuer Calibre Heuer 02-T movement was “developed directly from the DNA of the CH-80 chronograph” and sports both a tourbillon and chronograph complication. The 32-millimeter movement runs at 4 Hertz or 28,800 vibrations per hour. A new “industrial framework” was developed to optimise assembly in TAG Heuer’s Chevenez workshops and reduce cost. The COSC certification will go a long way in allaying any fears that Tag Heuer may have compromised on performance.
The movement is easily seen behind the skeletonized dial. The chronograph’s 12-hour and 30-minute sub-dials are located at the 9 and 3 o’clock marks with the tourbillon opening at the 6 o’clock mark.
