Samsung Gear S3 Classic confirmed by trademark filing?

Samsung Gear S2 and S2 ClassicSamsung is widely expected to unveil its next generation smartwatch in the coming weeks. Recent rumours suggest that the announcement will take place at IFA 2016. A filing for the ‘S3 Classic’ trademark has now effectively confirmed that Samsung will once again offer at least two models for its latest smartwatch.

KIPO trademark filing for Samsung Gear S3 Classic

Samsung last year unveiled both the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic (pictured above) at IFA 2015. The former comes with a silicone band and sports a sportier look than the latter which features a slightly different case design and a leather strap.

At this point, it looks like it will follow a similar approach and announce both the Gear S3 and Gear S3 Classic. Another trademark filing suggests that it could also announce the Gear S3 Frontier at the event.

The trademark filings reveal little about Samsung’s new smartwatches. They will almost certainly once again sport a rotating bezel and be powered by Samsung’s own Tizen mobile operating system. They could also get a GPS chipset as well as additional sensors to measure speed and atmospheric pressure and altitude.

The filing for the ‘S3 Classic’ trademark was submitted with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) a few days back.
