Sony PlayStation 3 lands in stores today

Sony PlayStation 3

It has been a long time coming. The first time I mentioned the Playstation 3 on Gadgetorama was back on May 17, 2005 (about a year and a half ago). It has certainly been a bumpy ride: Delays (and Europe will still have to wait until March 2007), limited product availability (Japan got about 100,000 units last week and North America is getting 400,000 this week), a controller that had to be redesigned, a price that would bankrupt a number of small countries and likely strong competition from the already year old Microsoft Xbox 360 and upcoming Nintendo Wii.

But the fateful day is here at last and the PlayStation 3 went on sale today in North America (after a similar launch a week a week ago in Japan).

To all who have lined up or are planning to head down to a store later today to get a Sony PlayStation 3, good luck. And to any lucky enough to have one in their hands, enjoy!
