A new rumour is making its way around that Palm and RIM could announce plans to merge later this week. This could be a good match: Palm has the Palm Treos and RIM has the BlackBerry that has been so successful in the corporate space. Both companies would be exposed to new markets and would be able to leverage off each other’s strengths. Blackberry-powered Treo, anyone?
If this turns out to be true, it would make at least one Palm investor happy (Mark Nelson, founder and former CEO of Ovid Technologies) as he suggested earlier this year that Palm should be open to the idea of a buyout from a larger company.
If this turns out to be more than just rumour, we could get more information as early as thursday. Or it will be a story that will make us all chuckle in a year!
