Samsung announces 120GB 1.8-inch HD

While we’ve covered the ever increasing capacity (and dropping prices) of SSDs quite a bit recently, the venerable hard drive technology is not staying still. Today, Samsung announced the 1.8-inch SpinPoint N2 hard drive with a capacity of 120GB. It spins at either 3,600 or 4,200 RPM and come with a 15 ms average seek time.

Production begins in July. It’s not hard to imagine these making their way into future iPods or UMPCs.

On the 2.5-inch side, Samsung has the 250GB SpinPoint M5 hard drive. Available either in SATA or PATA, it will spin at 5,400 RPM and have a 12 ms average seek time.

Pricing information was not disclosed.
