Archos bringing smartwatches and other connected devices to CES 2014

Archos smartwatchArchos today announced that it is bringing a “most comprehensive selection of connected objects for home and self” to CES 2014. In the line of Connected Home products will be accessories like a mini cam, motion ball, movement tag, weather tag and smart plug that will help automate certain functions around the home. A 7-inch “Home Gateway” Android tablet will also be unveiled to act as the central hub while apps will help manage various aspects through other devices. The Self line will focus more on the individual with accessories such as an activity tracker, smartwatches and more.

“Mobile devices have become the center of our life and our demand for instant access to information creates the need for even more interconnectivity,” says Loic Poirier, CEO of ARCHOS. “ARCHOS’ new lineup of connected objects exemplifies the ability to share and access information and represents our vision of creating a universe where all devices complement and work together.”

Among the wearable devices Archos will introduce are the ARCHOS Activity Tracker which will track health data such as daily footsteps and calories burned, the ARCHOS Blood Pressure Monitor which will also detect irregular heart beats and a “selection of smartwatches starting at under £50” (about CA$90). Little is know about the smartwatches but they promise a “pebble-like design” (suggesting an e-ink display?) and compatibility with both Android and iOS devices.

All will be revealed next week when CES 2014 kicks off.
