ASUS agent reveals launch and specifications of next Nexus 7 tablet?

Google NexusAn ASUS representative appears to have missed the memo about not revealing information about unannounced devices. When asked about the ASUS K009 tablet during an online chat, an unnamed agent volunteered not only a possible launch date but also a number of specification details.

First asked about a launch date, the agent said the tablet would be released “before the ending of Q2.” Asked to be more specific, he promised “before the ending of July.” When asked about specifications, he pretty much revealed everything we wanted to know.

Rumoured next-generation Google Nexus 7 specifications:

  • Processor: Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 or Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ 8064 (depending on cellular connectivity)
  • Operating system: Google Android 4.3
  • Cellular connectivity: Optional LTE / WCDMA / GSM
  • Other connectivity: 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC
  • Display: 7-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) LED
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Internal storage: 32GB
  • Rear-facing camera: 5MP
  • Front-facing camera: 1.2MP
  • Battery: 4,000mAh

Agents are normally trained about what they can and cannot say when asked about new devices. Assuming that this exchange is legitimate, this agent not only disregarded what ought to be basic rules of disclosure but also appeared to have access to far more information than front-line agents normally do. It’s not unlikely that this could be someone having a bit of fun, especially as none of the details revealed line up with those of an earlier rumour (which suggested a Wi-Fi only model as well as LTE and HSPA+ ones). A healthy pinch of salt is therefore required when considering these.

Next Google Nexus 7 specifications?

Google has yet to announce either the next Nexus 7 tablet or Google Android 4.3. The latter was reportedly leaked for the Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 last week so it could well be that an announcement is not too far off.
