Google reveals Nexus 8 tablet?

Rumoured Google Nexus 8Could Google have a slightly larger Nexus 8 tablet in the works? A mysterious tablet has surfaced on its own Android.com website, setting the rumour mill going once more. The device can be seen in the Apps & Entertainment section and bears a number of differences from the Google Nexus 7. Could it be the rumoured Nexus 8 (or even the Nexus 7.7)?

Looking at the tablet more closely, it’s clear that it’s running Android 4.4 KitKat. But that in itself means little as the Nexus 7 will be updated to the latest version of Android soon. But it also has on-screen navigation buttons, something the Nexus 7 lacks, and the bezels appear to be thinner. The device itself also appears to be larger. As Ars Technica points out, Google does not use generic or placeholder devices in its promotional materials, leading to the conclusion that it may have prematurely revealed the new tablet much as it did the Nexus 5 in its KitKat statue video.

Rumoured Google Nexus 8

Rumours of a slightly larger Nexus tablet have been around for nearly a year. We first heard about a 7.7-inch tablet, coincidentally from LG, early this year. More recently, a Bluetooth SIG filing for a device identified as the LG-V510 led to speculation that the LG G Pad 8.3, which bears model number LG-V500, could have been used as the basis for a Nexus 8 tablet much as the LG G2 was for the Nexus 5.

If legitimate, perhaps Google has one more surprise for us in the coming weeks. Could it announce the Nexus 8 alongside an updated Nexus 10 built by ASUS and perhaps even the Gem smartwatch?

What do you think? Let us know below if you think this could be the Google Nexus 8?
