A photo of alleged packaging materials that surfaced this weekend gave us our first clue as to what the upcoming budget iPhone or iPhone Lite could be called by the time it launches. Now a Business Insider source has given credence to the name revealed if not the picture itself. Both suggest that the cheaper iPhone model will be known as the iPhone 5C with the C likely standing for Colour as it will reportedly be available in a number of different colours.
Business Insider points out that their source does not work directly for Apple but that they are “connected to someone inside the company who confirmed the name.” Despite the second hand nature of the information, they stand by their source.
The report adds that the iPhone 5C will launch alongside the oft-rumoured iPhone 5S.
A separate report suggests that Apple has taken the current iPhone 5 out of its glass and aluminium case and repackaged it in a plastic one to push the price down. It could still sell for US$350 or more unsubsidized.
