NVIDIA yesterday announced that it was delaying the launch of its Android-powered SHIELD portable gaming console because of a “mechanical issue” with a third-party component. The company provided the following statement:
During our final QA process, we discovered a mechanical issue that relates to a 3rd party component. We want every SHIELD to be perfect, so we have elected to shift the launch date to July. We’ll update you as soon as we have an exact date.
NVIDIA is now working “around the clock” with the supplier to resolve the issue.
The NVIDIA SHIELD had been expected to go on sale today in both Canada and the US for $299. It has now been pushed back to sometime in July but NVIDIA does not have a new precise launch date yet. “We’ll let you know when we have an exact shipping date in July. We think it will be worth the wait,” it added in a blog post about the issue.
