Tizen-powered Samsung SM-Z9005 Redwood caught on video?

Tizen on rumoured Samsung SM-Z9005The Samsung Developers Conference came and went earlier this week without any Tizen smartphone announcement. It now appears that we will have to wait until 2014 to catch the launch of such devices. Following leaked pictures seen in September, a new video has surfaced, showing off the SM-Z9005 (codename Redwood), possibly destined to become the first Tizen-powered smartphone.

The video runs for nearly 10 minutes and gives us a good look at the Tizen operating system as it stands at version 2.2:

The video shows an operating system that is reminiscent of MeeGo. Given that Tizen traces its roots back to that defunct operating system, that is not a surprise. It also shows influences from Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface, again, not a big surprise. In fact, Android users may find Tizen oddly familiar.

As for the Z9005, it is rumoured to sport specifications very similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy S III, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 4.8-inch HD (720×1280) display.

The SM-Z9005 is reportedly already in the hands of some developers in India. If so, it could well simply be a device geared at developers to help them get their first Tizen apps ready.
