Walmart to offer US$89 7-inch HP Mesquite tablet for Black Friday

HP MesquiteThe price of Android tablets are about to hit a new low. Intel today revealed that a number of tablets powered by its own processors will be on sale on Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days in the U.S., and prices start as low as US$89. Promising “lightning-fast web browsing and extraordinary battery life that keeps up with you and your busy life,” few will likely sell for less than the deal Walmart will have on the 7-inch HP Mesquite.

Little is known about the HP Mesquite except that it will go on sale for US$89. Little is known about the tablet itself but PCMag reports that it will use the Intel Medfield Atom processor, an older processor that has been succeeded by the more powerful Intel Bay Trail Atom processor.

If a 7-inch tablet is too small for you, Intel lists other deals:

  • A Dell Venue 8 tablet for US$99 with the purchase of a PC valued at US$599.99 or more from Costco
  • A Dell Venue 8 for US$129.99 from Dell.com
  • A Dell Venue 8 Pro (with Windows 8) for US$279.99 from Staples
  • A Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 for US$299.99 from Best Buy or Office Depot

Intel promises that there will also be deals to be had on a number of other tablets, all powered by Intel processors of course, including the Lenovo Miix 2, HP Omni, ASUS MeMoPad, and Acer Iconia W3.

It appears that Intel has decided to use Black Friday to try to boost its presence in the tablet market and take the fight to market leader ARM.
